Hi guys i have been reading through the stolen land rovers section and find it amazing that so many get stolen, if we can spend thousands of pounds on extra's why cant they spend £150-£250 on a alarm system mine is a pager system with tilt sensor, dual zone sensor which gives a warning chirp if people look inside the vehicle then full alarm if they dont go away whats your views on this its the first thing i always put on my Landies before anything else.

baseball bat is tricky ground, you would have to be able to demonstrate that you participated in the sport and that it was reasonable to have around the house.

now, 6D cell maglite next to the bed in case of power cuts 'cos I have kids in the house is acceptable, would naturally pick that up if I heard a sound downstairs so as to not have to turn main lights on and wake kids...

Oh, and the 20Kg dry powder extinguisher which is floating around the landing somewhere.

honest officer...

think you'll find the 6 cell maglite is fround on and excessive :D
but in my line of work a 4 pound lump hammer and a 20oz estwing claw hammer are in abundance in the house/landie

Yeah certainly the way to go buddy;)

It's easy to prevent your Land Rover from getting stolen. In fact, it's so easy I'm surprised everyone isn't already doing it.

All you have to do is paint it bright pink and put playboy logos all over it.

That way, nobody will want to nick it. Simples!

yeah right! this coming from a hippo driver :D

How many use disclocks or clutch-claws etc.

One of my nightmares is losing my disco but ive only got the bog standard alarm on it, dont know what will give more protection without being a hassle each time you want to drive it, hassle=don't bother after a while.

If somebody is going to steal your pride and joy, they will. Thats what insurance is for :)

Nigel.

oh well, lets not worry then. lets not worry about the massive inconvenience factor, especially as a lot of us use our vehicle for work. not just mindless commuting from a 2 b, but actually use and need the vehicle to carry out their day to day job, or the grief that goes with it, then arguing with the insurance company over values, to say nothing of the trying to buy another reliable landy to replace the stolen one.

there are a whole load of things which insurance can't cover. eg service history. mine's serviced every 6000 miles, so hopefully it will carry on giving good service. if it was stolen, that would become largely irrelevant, and would be worth no more than one with no service history at all.

and so on, to say nothing of the custom racking, handsfree kit, etc that many of us have fitted.

Yes thats true, and if they want into my house they surely will, but that dont mean i leave all the windows open when i'm out.

I was thinking along the lines of what people do to make it harder to nick their motor as older ones are not the most secure items.

Ok, I know many owners are attached to their Land Rovers and put a lot of effort (myself included) into making it a little more personal. I would be pretty upset if some low life took my vehicle, and to that end I have various security measures on my property to prevent such an event. But when I'm 'out and about' (when its most likely to be targeted) I have to depend on the vehicles security system. How secure that vehicles security system is depends not only on the vehicles 'built in' system, but also upon the ingenuity of the owner fitting further security ie; battery isolator, fuel cut off etc. But if ultimately the thief overcomes these deterents, it all comes down to having the vehicle properly insured.

Talking of 'ultimate' security, years ago a friend had an open top sports car that was impossible to secure. What he did was to use a block of wood with a 4 inch nail through it, placed beneath the drivers seat. One day his other half needed to take the car, she was not aware of his 'security'.........

Exactly right buddy i also have a clutch claw on mine, but i would be heart broken if any of mine got nicked hence why i have the security i do i would go as far to say there is a slim chance they would nick mine ive tried to get in it myself just to test it and i cant clever things these modern alarms thats for sure.
