i have just decided to bild a defender camper/motorhome, i have just got a 200 tdi 130 and i am going to strech it to 150 and put a 7 ft wide 11 ft long body on it with a it over the cab for a bouble bed, it will have long rainge tanks ( diesel, water, waist ) tv, sky, toilet, shower, kitchen, solar and a good size battery bank so it will be self running for a long trip across europe it will sleep 4 people

has any one done anything like this before or seen anything that could help me

there are some things i need to compleat this ie rear disk axle, 110 chassie, front doors i am in hampshire and if you have any thing i will collect

A 150" where do you think you wil be able to park it???????????:confused::confused::confused::rolleyes:
stick with the 130" and over hang the back ;)

also make sure it is not too top heavy.

the rest sounds good :)

For a single guy like myself 110 LR is ideal. You can get your stores and bed in it if you're under 6 ft. :)
I think anymore than 110 is pushing it if you need it to go to work in etc...

I've been on the Factory Tour where they use a 148. The lock is a real problem, and they know exactly where they are going. I'd stick with 130

whatever you do, dont take it to the Alps!

As above, I would stick to a 130. Its then still capable of going most places. A 150 is going to be overkill and will limit what you can and cannot do with it.

There are many places that do camper conversions where you can get ideas from. If your sticking to sealed roads, why not just buy a campervan? If you want to venture offroad then i wouldnt go beyond 130".

speak to these guys: AZALAI - Base Vehicles

Have a look at Foley specialist vehicles for a few ideas.have you considered 6x6 on a longer vehicle ?
Having converted various vehicles to campers myself,if I was going to build one for off road,I'd use a van based 4x4 ,such as a merc or iveco,or even an ex military 4x4 truck.
Good luck with the build. :)

ok thanks for that
