Good evening, im hoping somebody can point me in the right direction.

After converting my 1985 landrover 90 to discovery axles i thought i'd need discovery steering ball joints (or whatever they are called....)
Unfortunately the threads are different so it looks like i have bought the wrong ones, when doing a google search i cant seem to find the part numbers for the items i need, can anybody help

Regards, Steve

Im not sure if you realise but one side os left hand thread and the the side is right hand thread?
Track rod ends and drag link ends, track rod is what joins the wheels together, drag link is the steering box rod swivel assembly

Hi. thanks for the reply.

The track rod end started to go into the steering arm but then started getting tight, upon closer inspection the pitch on the threads was different to the one i removed.

Am i correct in saying that discovery and defender track rod ends / drag links are different?
on ebay they seem to have the same item numbers RTC5869 / RTC5870 but some listing say they only fit defender whereas others say they only fit discovery, one of the JGS4x4 listings say that they fit both defender and disco.
I'm very confused

The only difference is the disco has the steering damper mounted to the track rod, defender to the drag link. TRE's are the same it's just the thread direction that's different depending on which side it is. Use your existing drag/track rods and jobs done.

Oh ok, your wording made me think you had actually replaced it. How many threads screw in? How do you know they're different?

It is possible to start the wrong hand threads into a track rod, dont ask me how I know:rolleyes:

To be quite honest i think that may be what i have done, perhaps the two slits in the side of the track rod allowed me to get it started... that would explain why it got harder to turn the more i wound it in.

Thanks for all the helpful replies, ill take another look tomorrow.

Easily done if very worn or the slots have been levered open a bit too much during disassembly.

You were right, i was trying to screw them in the wrong ends.
Switched them round today and they went straight in.

what a donut!

We all learn by our mistakes, sharing them helps everyone plus gets a laugh which is always good:D
Of course some people reckon they never make mistakes, but we all know they are full of ****e!
