Good evening, ALL

Just been doing a little bit of off roading on a track, nothing too bad and when I left to drive home it felt like my landrover was driving on ice. If I took my foot of the gas the rear end appeared to be catching up with the front, swaying, only managed to do 40 max.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated - I have checked underneath and the tyre pressures and I can't see anything loose or damaged.

Thanks Muply

did you wash all the mud off? check the inside of the wheels. not inside as such, behind the wheels. sometimes mud collects in here and can do all sorts of wierd things. mostly vibration related but you never know.

Easiest first check is the steering drop arm balljoint and the nut that holds the drop arm onto the spline on the bottom of the steering box. If either are loose you've found yer culprit I'd reckon.

All the wheelnuts are done up tight... right?

If that ain't it, check the rear axle stabiliser brackets, if one of them has snapped it'll wander about like a tramp with an empty bottle o' meths ;)

If you'd been doing anything 'extreme' you might have bent a tie rod, but they usually take a fair old whack before you bend one and you'd know you'd hit something hard for certain.

If I think of anything else I'll chuck it in 'ere.

Just a sec... your profile says you've got a Freelander. It's wandering because it's ****e ;) Set it on fire and buy yerself a proper landy, it's the only solution I'm afraid :D

have your rear brakes, if they are drums, got full of mud? This could cause the rear wheels to not rotate freely, but seems really unlikely.

They would have to be REALLY full of mud, and would probably show it while on the power also.

You done much off roading in it before?
