My freelander 1 started making a noise in the engine like a whistling sound. In the rear view mirror was grey smoke it started loosing power and would not go more than 50 miles ph. After pulling over in a lay by the engine juddered and smoke came from the front and black smoke from the back. It won’t turn over since then. AA says the engines seized, independent Machanic thinks turbo has gone and blocked the jets. Not sure what to do. Only 71,000 miles o the clock. Oil in engine.

Put a socket and bar on the crank bolt and see if the engine turns by hand, if it does then work out how such you're willing to spend on it, turbo is in reality a consumable and can be treated as such, so long as the turbo hasn't shredded the turbine blades on the intake I would pop a new one on and get it back on the road, if it has shredded the intake turbine then usually the debris will get caught in the intercooler but still worth pulling the head to be certain but it's all fixable just cost dependent.

Be a good idea to ask in the freelancer or the engine forums for better advice as this is the section for saying hi ;)

Check your oil. If it has none and you can't turn the engine over with as described above then it's probably oil seals failed in the turbo and all the oil was sucked out of the engine.
If that is what has happened then you need to call around all your local mechanics to see what they would charge for replacing the engine.
It might make ore financial sense to flog it for parts and buy something else. :(
