Disco 1 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 1 REAR SPRINGS QUESTION

Hello
It seems that finding the genuine Land Rover part STC8937 is harder than i thought ! So I have ended up thinking about installing Land Rovers NTC8572 rear coil springs ! They have a higher rating than STC8937. Does anybody know whether they fit a 1997 Disco 1 ? On the Jaguar Land Rover Parts site it says that they fit vehicles with VIN numbers dating before mine ! Let me know ! Thank you in advance !

Hi. I can't tell you if they fit or not but if you compare the specs of the two part numbers made by the same reputable manufacturer seems that there are differencies:

I respect your insistance in fitting genuine LR parts so be aware that for such old vehicle you might end up with Britpart in a LR box

Hmmm, interesting as Rovers North in the US offer the NTC8572 as a heavy duty rear coil spring option for the Disco 1

While Island4x4 sells NTC8572 as "normal" spring for all D1s though you can see that the STC8937 is 1mm thicker

I discovered that NTC8572 is a progressive spring that is rated from 220 to 330 lb/inch so i believe it is a great option ! Let me know of your thoughts !

I would highly recommend you to call Extreme 4x4, they have a long list of std , progressive and custom springs and could probably give you a very good direction to take.

Progressive rear springs were fitted to the early RR, which then had the assistance of the Borge strut...
That part number u give relates to disco’s with a VIN up to KA 038877 (no Borge strut fitted) so not applicable to your later 300 series disco.
LRs workshop manual states the correct springs for the 300 series, when built, were ANR 3477 with a brown/green stripe, when HD springs were requested, then springs with the part number is ANR4352 were fitted.

Thank you for the great info ! By the way there is no Boge strut on my Disco as well ! Oh and it also is an MPi 2.0 litre.

D1s didn't have the strut, it’s just the early RR and fitted to provide the self levelling function as they had softish springs for passenger comfort, with the disco LR just install harder springs, the good point with that was now less roll on bends.

That is what i was aware of as well, that Discos did not have a strut, that is why i was a bit confused ! The strut was also available on the early 110s. Anyway i will see what i will fit to my Disco and will update as to how it will perform ! Cheers !
