Hi all.

Looking to buy a CSW 200tdi. Got a quote for insurance from the usual suspect. Me no probs driving a 12 seater as passed test before 1997 however the wife only passed 11ish years back, will check, but fairly sure it was after 1997.

As this is the case she can't drive a 12 seater. (Max 8 seats???). Anyway can I just remove one side bench from the back and the middle front hence making it an 8 seater or what's the options??

Thanks in advance guys.

yes . you can do that.
or what i did was take front midd seat out.
just remove rear seat cushions out of back

or just send v5 off if you buy it re class it as a eight seater.
when are you ever gunna have 12 people in it

Ok thanks. The quote from Adrian Flux was £650. That's me 36, wife 41. 11yrs NCB protected, 15k miles per year. Me driving since 1996, wife driving for 11 years. Landy is a 1992 CSW.

How does this sound?

My Disco 300tdi is only around £380 I think, seems a little steep.

You might want to check on the gov.uk website, I found this when faced with the same problem:

"You may still be able to can drive a minibus with your car licence (category B) as long as all the following apply:

you’re 21 or older
you’ve had your driving licence for at least 2 years
the maximum weight of the minibus is 3,500kg (or 4,250kg including specialist equipment for disabled passengers, eg a wheelchair ramp)
you’re not towing a trailer
the minibus is used by a non-commercial body for social purposes
you don’t get paid except for expenses, eg fuel, parking costs
you provide the service on a voluntary basis
You can’t drive for ‘hire or reward’ (you can’t be paid to drive). You may have restriction code 101 on your licence."

Check with this link:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/WhatCanYouDriveAndYourObligations/DG_4022547

My wife also passed her test in 1997 and reading this info indicates she can drive a 12 seat defender (cat D1) on a cat B car licence as long as the conditions are met.
