I have a 2003 5 door TD4 bought about 6 weeks ago I have been fixing various faults but don't seem to be able to get enough power out of it.

Before I bought it the turbo hoses had been changed as had the injectors, I have changed the MAF sensor the MAP sensor and the turbo boost solenoid cleaned all th block connectors to the sensors.

I have also used a dose of cataclean and using millers and 2 stroke in every fill there has been some improvement but it still seems lacking in low down power.

i have read that the freelander is gutless and needs the sinergy II to make it go well but just how gutless is it when standard, I have a friend who used to own a TD4 and towed a horse box with 2 large horses in it I don't think mine could tow that much weight and is pretty hopeless on a slight incline with me having to drop down the gears where the Skoda this replaced would fly up in top gear.

What Skoda did you come from?

The TD4 is okay when everything is working fine. I have a Ronbox (new name for Synergy) turned off at the moment.

I have removed the EGR and changed the PCV to the Dyson (BMW) one as well.

Mine has plenty of low down torque even without the Ronbox switched on. I did replace the MAF with a Pierberg one.

Mine will get up to motorway speeds albeit just a little slower than my old Yeti. It also doesn't really accelerate from 70 with any gusto. It is only 110bhp from new - mine is now 7 years old so will be less. It also weighs more than my a Yeti did. The Yeti was a remapped CR140 DSG.

I had an Octavia 2L TDi 140BHP which really did get up and go when required so its not fair to compare them.

I have also replaced the PCV filter and removed the EGR valve, there does seem to be adequate power once 2000 rpm is reached and starts to come in at 1500 rpm but nothing below that perhaps I'm expecting too much.

No there isn't a great deal below 1500.rpm, but there is enough. My FL won't change up like the Skoda did. I could trickle along at 1100rpm in 4/5/6 no problem with the DSG, but not in the FL auto. It won't change up until the next gear is around 1500rpm.

The Skoda CR140 lump was very flexible 1100-5000rpm and has masses more torque than my FL, even with the Ronbox, The Yeti would have been in the region of 400Nm and was 320Nm when it left the factory. Whereas the FL left with 260Nm and with the Ronbox goes up to low 300's.

Thanks guy's it sounds like there is something not right yet I'll keep trying see if it can be improved a bit more everything I've done seems to have made it slightly better

Wow that looks great well worth a try, would this be classed as a mod for insurance as I would rather not do anything that would put my premiums up

would this be classed as a mod for insurance
would probably depend on the insurance company
i.e. as to what mod. would increase the premium

a tuning box or a re-map would no doubt give them reason to increase it ..
however a re-map is 'hidden' .. unless they were to access the ecu somehow ..

adding a synergy 2a ( ronbox ) cost me an extra £23 p.m. ..
