Hi,

I have 2 problems :(

First I have a 1995 P38 Diesel seems to lack in power drives ok ticks over perfect revs perfect but when your driving and put your foot to the floor on motorway its just nothing there I can get over 60mph gradually. How do you know if your in safe mode(limp home mode)?
When I bought the vehicle the fuel filter had been bypassed and another oneway clear filter had been fitted between tank and pump.

Second when im stationary and in neutral I press the low range button it just flashes but sometimes it will say low on dash but when you drive it says select neutral and when you select neutral it says slow down but dosnt seem to be in lowrange as drives exactly the same what speed max would you get in low range about 30mph? incase im stuck in low thats why I have no power :S

Thanks

Petrol or diesel? I assume it's manual? You would know if you were in low range, on the auto in first gear low range it creeps along with 4k rpm on the tacho.

Haha sorry Keith :p knew id get you back one day!

Lack of power may be the boost pressure pipe disconnected or clogged. Runs from the bottom of the intake manifold to the top of the fuel filter. Replace or refit with new vac pipe.

Try pressing the button a few times, maybe a bit sticky and give it a few seconds to think about it before driving off. Does it on mine. Good old land rover - you know its in low range when your hear the two great girders of metal go clunk under the vehicle!

Can you take a pic of the clear oneway fuel filter and post it?
It may be whoever bypassed the original fuel filter has fitted something too restrictive to allow fuel through at the rate required for any power delivery.
just a thought.
;)

Fuel filter bypass, could this be giving me lack of power the smallest hill I crawl up dropping gears right down :S

More knowledgeable folk will be along soon but I think you should be heading to the scrappy to get a proper RR filter setup. It interacts with the manifold by a vacuum pipe and also has a fuel heater I think.

I don't think your plastic substitute offers these.

Anyone know where I can buy the plastic fuel filter housing and pipes from, tried a scrap yards near which have no rangies in and ebay has none.

Thanks

I make that;
a Disco, two Series and now a P38
You're either a masochist or are trying to start a Land Rover garage using us.

Anyway, a clue to "near" might help in finding you another Rangie breaker.

Well, it has but the price is a bit unfriendly

Some of these things are cheaper from BMW (Not this I note). Breakers will probably be less aspirational for Vauxhall Omega parts than Range Rover.

Is the old one still in the car?
