L322 Windscreen wipers

Driving down motor way today in the rain and my wipers stopped working. At the time they were on auto and by the time i realized they were not working I could not see at all out of the window. Pulled over and switched off, checked fuse all ok. Tried wipers with ignition on and nothing. Started car and all ok again. Any ideas and puts you off driving in the rain??
