Hi everyone,
I noticed a puddle of diesel on the ground under the car. On closer inspection I traced it up to the back of the diesel injector pump and there was a steady drip whilst the engine's running from what appears to be the Pressure Control Valve on the back of the pump. The problem is, it's such a hard place to see what's going on, and it almost looks like there's diesel dripping from the high pressure line fitting where it attaches to the pump and then dropping down onto the PCV. Or, it's the PCV leaking itself. It's a constant drip at idle.
The car's done 100 000kms and it's an 04 model.
Basically, i need to first rule out if its a leaking fitting between the line and the pump....it seems impossible to get any implement in there to do it up tight....so before I get going in removing half the stuff under the bonnet to get to it, thought I'd just check if there's anything that's a common problem in this area....ie either the joint or the PCV itself and any suggestions on fixing? Or maybe its a sign for a new pump or rebuild?

Thanks in advance,
Marcus

my 03 td6 had a leak in the same area turned out to be the low pressure pipe had split where it connects to the high pressure pump ,however had to remove the inlet manifold to get to it ,not that hard to do just a bit fiddly ,if its just a drip it'll probably be on the low pressure side as if it was high pressure it would squirt a fair bit as its at 1000+bar.

Hi,
thanks for your response....I ended up solving the problem. It turned out to be the fitting on the end of the high pressure line from the pump outlet to the common rail. No matter how tight i got it, it was still leaking. It leaked even when the engine wasnt running and just the boost pump was....so I'd hate to think how much was coming out when the injector pump was running. Go the new pipe, bolted it on and leak stopped! The old pipe had a tiny spot of corrosion on the flared end....

Hi all
i have this similar on my 06 TD6, i took it to my local garage for inspection and they said it looks like the seal to the top cover on the pump is showing a little misting but it isnt major at present. But i too had a damp patch under the front passenger side of diesel.
My garage said it is a Main dealer only as its a hell of a job to get to and change, can anyone advise me further on how to progress...
