Hi, L322 2005 model year, both wings have rot on them. Open the rear doors, at the bottom to the front of the rear wheel where they go to the plastic trim of the sill they are rotten, the last 4 inches or so. Does anyone know if there is a plate made that can be welded in, in place of the rot? If so who makes them please?
Thanks sieve

As far as I know there aluminium doors

Just the paint bubbles up like a chemical reaction with the metal

The actual metal doesn't rust

aluminium doesnt "rust", because rust id ferrous oxide....

but it does corrode - it reverts back to its natural state - Bauxite, which is a powder. usually caused by electrolytic action between the two dissimilar metals.

Sorry, not the doors, the actual wings themselves I am referring to, where the wing continues over the wheel arch which is only visible when the rear doors are open, it continues over the arch down to the plastic sill, are the Aluminium or Steel, the state of them says they are steel, but I did assume they were Aluminium.

alot of them have it , it starts because gunk builds up inside the plastic sill cover and behind the edge of the rear wheel arch which holds water and doesnt dry out properly resulting in the rust bubbling under the paint ,also the edge of the rear wheel arch can rust quite badly , mine has it aswell on both of the arches covered when the door shuts but only about an inch square of bubbles -its on the todo list .
