Nowthen all, my dads 03 plate L322 Rangie Auto has gone into limp home mode and I am told it says on the dash display somthing like "Transmision failure / malfunction".
It has been recovered to a dealer but hoped someone out their could shine some light on the problem apart from it been an expensive one!

Cheers:confused:

im sure i heard somewhere that they suffer with gearbox problems to to something that wasn,t made right when they were built,so either box needs to be reconed or a new one.

What was the outcome to this and how much did it cost - mine just suffered the same, 52 plate 75k miles. cheers

The 5HP24 has two known weaknesses with its hard parts (running gear). This one sounds like the clutch 'A' drum (input shaft) fatigue failure. The end of the drum breaks off around the end plate retaining ring groove.

Same problem as the BMW X5. It will need a recon or new. Prices from around the £1500 to £2500 . They are well know for it ,so well known you can them off the shelf.!!!

Mine was showing the same display as an intermittant fault for a couple of months. Weeks appart at first, then days, so I left it with Stratstones. I was quoted "around £5k" over the phone, it went down to £3,800 by the time I went to pick the car back up, then down to £2,600 for a re-con box by the time I got home.
I just dropped the car off with an independent (but approved) servicer and he's doing it under warranty for me.
