I only use it for business, it's a complete pain but one must keep up with the youngsters to have any credibility these days eh

You could always take them out in it and generate the fault symptoms for them but as you say i wouldn't start working on it as you will void your non existent warranty.
I know one person that followed the whole process through the courts which took about 18 months but he did get some money back.
They did the usual of saying they will go bust if they get taken to court but that is more hassle than it's worth.
Log everything, phone calls and visits and names of who you dealt with.

That worked for me when i bought some crappy VW replica alloy wheels, the company refused to replace them as they said it was stone chips but all the lacquer started peeling off so i contacted the credit card company who contacted the firm on my behalf and said they would be crediting me and taking the money back off them if they didn't resolve it.
They then phoned me and said they would swap the wheels over, which were also ****e but initially they threatened me with the big boys coming round and the 'do you know who we are' so i took the wheels, had them diamond cut and sold them on.

I've arranged for an engineer to come round and inspect the car and take it for a test drive, the report he supplies will stand up in court (unlike the RAC report) so we'll see how it pans out. I'm keeping a diary of the whole event, phone calls, emails and photos. Thanks for the links.
