L322 battery life

Hi,
Got a '52 plate TD6 Vogue and the battery needs charging regularly!!...it throws the usual HDC inactive warning up all the time on start up!


How long does the batterty last on the vehicle as i think it is still the original one that came with the vehicle?!?!?

The garage said changing the battery would be the first port of call as it might be "past it".

Either there is a fault on the vehicle draining the battery or the battery is past it. It's easy enough to get the battery tested before you fork out for a new one. If you do have to get a new one, get the biggest amp hour/CCA one that will fit, these cars like their volts.

if it shows hdc inactive for a split second when starting it the battery is more than likely duff, if its original you have been very lucky. they normally get through batterys fairly quickly, i had one on mine a couple of years ago and its on its way out already. replace it with the bosch s5 020, it got more cca than the original and has a 5 year warranty.

thats the one i just bought for a customers td6, the difference in starter speed is something else.

Regarding batterys,

mine has some cheap looking varta battery fitted - it usually throws up the HDC inactive message on start up in the morning for a split second. do you recon its the battery on its way out then ? i guess while the car cranks over theres inefficient power in the battery so the errors can come up ? as i know range rovers dont like low batterys ?

any warnings regarding changing the battery ? will i open a can of worms if i disconnect the battery ? other then re-setting steering angle sensor ?

do you notice that it starts quicker when you fitted that new bosch battery ?

We used to have Varta batteries at work for our plant and vans, rubbish in my opnion, we now use Exide and they are much better. Varta just seem to get away with it because of the usual percived German quality.

it will start much quicker with the bosch battery fitted, the extra power sorts out fault messages aswel. there is a procedure to follow when changing the battery but its a bit drawn out. as long as you wait for the red light on the gps unit in the boot to go out before disconnecting the battery you should be good to go, put the bonnet in the service postion aswel other wise your chances of getting that battery out are slim to none. make sure you had your weetabix before hand, the battery weighs a bl00dy ton.

Is that for a P38?? reason I ask is because it looks like it wont fit a P38 (unless I have the dims wrong)

Just been advised by the AA that my 18 month old £130 Varta 920 cca battery is f****d! Car had been turning over ever more sluggishly in the mornings over the past few weeks, but tonight when I came out to drive home from work it was dead as a dodo.
Tester showed it was supplying 11.2 volts and 226amps. Testing unit said 'replace battery'
Came with a 5 year guarantee so hopefully i'll get it replaced for free.
