Good day guys

I have a massive one to ask. Can anybody help me with pump timing settings or a simple to follow procedure or a step-by-step video. So first question is, is disconnecting the pump pulley without locking (and without disconnecting )the pump timing wheel completely mess up the pump timing? If yes, then how to set it back. Secondly, How to actually set the pump timing?

Getting pretty desperate. I cannot seem to find a specific video or manual about it.

Yes. Which is why the locking bolt is already fitted to the pump, so you can use it.

Technically you can't.

If the timing hasn't been locked correctly before the pump was removed, then the timing is messed up, which needs to be set with specialist equipment.
I believed LR used to be able to do it, but a pump reconditioner could also set it up accurately again.

However sometimes there is a little mark on the shaft and pump body behind the pulley, but it's only an approximate method of timing, and sometimes the mark isn't there at all.
 
Dial indicator, find out what lift the pump has on tdc?

Google perkins prims, also used by volvo penta and designated MD22, TMD22.
 
You are right @GrumpyGel . No marks. I have two options. Since the pump itself was not removed, I can do the tedious work of groove elimination. That is placing and marking the wheel, crank and eliminate until I find the the right spot. Not sure though how that will affect the injectors. Second option is a specialist.
 
What had actually happened is a painful and overall funny story. Firstly, the hippo was overheating and had a blown turbo. Took it to this so called 'Diesel engine specialist' who quickly dived in to change the head gasket. Idiot did not mark or lock any timing (both sides). He quickly reassembled the engine and find out the hard hard way that a Freelander timing was like battling a Hippo in a lake. He quickly threw in the towel and waivered his fee.

I later find that the only problem was a clogged oil pump in the sump. You can imagine me turning blue in the face having discovered something a so called 'diesel specialist' could not. But by that time, I was bent over with my trousers around my ankles and a Landy waiting to F**k me in the a$$
