Hey folks just serviced my l series hippo, oil, fuel, pollen filter, now it's not starting I think it might have something to do with the fuel filter, it's a Brit part one and I primed the filter with the hand pump after fitted the new one, it started at first then after I tried to start it again it won't start, anyone got any ideas? Do I have it on the correct way? Is there air in the system? All the help will be much appreciated folks.

Thanks rifleman.

Hi which engine is this on ? If it's td5 then it needs to prime it's self this can be done by turning on the ignition and waiting for the electric fuel pump to stop pumping turn off and repeat 3x you will hear a change in the tone it makes but 3x should prime the system ⛽️

did u fill the filter with diesel first before fitting

if not undo the 10mm bolt on the new filter and hand prime the fuel into the filter until it comes out of the top

tighten up and try again a few times to get the air out the pipes

It's a 2.0l diesel L series engine, yes I primed the filter using the hand pump and undone the screw on the top until fuel started to come out. Another one too is the pipe where the hand pump is, is that the inlet for the diesel?

Yes but I always fill any diesel filter first out of a jerry can. Had it when I did my l series but was air in the filter and pipe and had to get it out. Didn't have any more bother once sorted

i found that undoing the 10mm and pressing while tightening it back up helped get the air out as when ya let go of the pump mine was taking air back in through the filter bolt

I'll give it a try iv changed the fuel filter before and never had this problem. Iv just tried starting it again and it sounds like it's just the starter motor turning over not even spluttering like it's trying to start.

Just tried to start the car again to no avail. I pumped the hand pump for ages and took the line off to see if fuel was actually going through and it was, it's just still turning over with no intentions to start, I'm tempted to burn the bag of crap at the moment

Get someone to crank the car for you while you use a 17mm spanner to undo the union nut on top of the injector just half a turn and diesel should come out but if not then the trapped air will come out.. Start at 1 and wait for the diesel to come out with no spluttering air then tighten do same again for them all
