Knupke, freelander 1.8 does start and fire and then dies immidiately

had car over to garage they put it on the computer ECU seems to be broke I'am searcing for a new set now.
will exchange in car and under the bonnet at the sam time ten we will see what happens keep my fingers crossed.

That's a pretty unusual fault. Don't suppose you were jump starting another car by any chance or doing something with the electrics before it happened?
 
no but i did check for faults in the ignition and fuel supply, I did put in a new fuelpump and a new rotor and distibutorcap plus a new ignitioncoil.
after this didn't work I had a garage read it out they came up with a defective ECU:(
 
Finally the car is fixed swopped out the ECU,receiver for alarm, the computer at the back of the breaker board and the remotes
had these parts from a broke down (defective engine) freelander.
this kept the costs in check.and I did not have to go somewhere to get everything to work together
maybe I will take apart the ECU to see what went wrong but for now we are happy:)

thanks, next up is a 110 which needs some maintenance my son bought it last year I checked the chassis which looks oke.
car is running and driveable, but I think I have to do some work on the exhaust and ignition

here a sad update the freelander died this weekend:eek: engine blew on the highway
just exploded after a few seconds of disturbing rattle from the engine think we lost a crankshaft bearing:eek:
at the search for another one nowo_O

Sorry to hear that. It's unusual though. The K4 bottom end is generally very reliable. Are you sure it's not had a timing belt fail?

Ouch! Sorry to hear you're having more issues. You haven't had much luck with it. Like Nodge says I've never heard of a K series doing that unless something else failed first.
On the plus side K series 1.8's are plentiful in the scrappies from Rovers, MG's and Freelanders. You could probably put one together using parts from your own for very small money.
Be wary of engines sold as complete runners (therefore more money) unless you can hear them running and are able to check for head gasket failure.

I don't know how popular Rover's are in the The Netherlands Ali? But there might be some about.

True, but at least it might be an option.
BTW do you know if anyone has swapped a N series out of a Chinese MG into a Freelander? I don't know if it would even be possible but if so would be a nice improvement for reliability.

I've read about it being done, but don't know anyone that's actually done it. It's bound to be possible, as long as the bell pattern is the same.
 
got my son another freelander 5 door with complete service history so we know it has a reliable mileage and we have documentation on timing belt, head gasket exchange and a new clutch
there are a few little issues but I can use parts from the old car to swap them when we get it back at home from the recovery firm
happy days:)
 
Let's hope you have better luck with the new one. They are generally much more reliable than their bigger brothers and a damn sight cheaper to own.

here is a last update got the "new" five door ready was driving and sounding a lot better then the old one but then my son lost his front wheel drive:eek:
I ended up swapping the gearbox of the scrapped fl1 to this one :mad: but in the end it all worked out fine so now we have a happy son and a very driveable car
at last we are out of the woods:):rolleyes: now the srcappy just needs to pick up the left overs from the old car:):D
