Knocking noise at rear on full lock

Hi guys,

As per title really.. Last 2 weeks or so ive had a knocking noise coming from the left rear wheel area when on full lock to the right at speeds higher than about 5MPH. And im sure when it knocks you can actually "feel" the knock through the frame of the car..

My 4WD seems fine, no tighter than it ever has been, power steering fluid is normal, no other strange noises.. Im on 148k now.. Had new VCU, IRD & bearings on 112k which was on Dec 09..

The noise reminds me of when i had an 89 405DT about 15 years ago.. when that was on full lock i had a clicking/knocking noise from the front.. They turned out to be CV joints that were worn out.

Any ideas would be appreciated.. Ive owned the hippo 2 years now, and this has been my first ever fault really.. I want to get it diagnosed and repaired as soon as possible cos

a) Its MOT time on Sept 20th so dont want to get shafted on parts/labour by a garage!!

b) im taking it to france for 2 weeks in the middle of November, and dont particularly fancy admiring a french hard shoulder......

Searched on here for same problem on freelanders, only 2 old ones came up and both were quite short and not answered.

Cheers,
Andrew

Check VCU bearings, rear diff mounts and sub frame condition. If you run a search on any of those terms you will find lots of avenues of investiagation :). I doubt it will be something that will fail an MOT though.

Will.
