Knocking Engine

Hi

I have a discovery 300 tdi and noticed a knocking in the engine on my way home. This morning I drove it about half a mile and the knocking got louder untill now it sounds like someone banging a drum in ryhthm with the engine which increases in speed as you rev the engine.

Any thoughts on what this might be would be appreciated

could be something as simple as valve cap wotn through or vac pump to big ends /main bearlings the latter will show low oil pressure

Use a stick and hold it to the engine block then engine head while pressing it to your ear while the engine is running.Stethescope. It will give you a clue as to where the noise is coming from. Be very careful please, avoid moving parts, CAN CAUSE INJURY, good luck and keep us informed.

I have tried to listen to where it is coming from but can't figure it out so have put a vid on youtube.

Any thoughts?

check the valves, as it could be a valve not being opened by the rocker caused by a push rod coming a drift.
