knock or thud on rear end

My car is a Freelander td4 hse autoI have a knock or thud from rear end when I slow to a junction and then accelerate away. the slower I pull away the less the noise could it be bushes or mechanical.any info would be appreciated cheers.

sounds like the infamous rear diff bushes

Rear diff front bush past its best. It's well worth testing the VCU too. A stiffening VCU will load the diff up more than normal. This shortens the bush life and the rest of the AWD system.
Search for One Wheel Up Test.
