Hi,

My 2002 td4 has problem on turning on to right or left. When i start to trip with turning right or left big knock sound and until straight i fell some vibration as well. It is doing same when turning with slow speed. Last thing is ; After 110 km i have vibration too. But is not like a tyres vibration.

Normally car goes straight very well without any power loss.

What can be cause this problem. What i need to check

Waiting for your recommendations.

Best Regards,

HY

I had the same problem. Went to a service agent. They told me the VC had seized and was putting too much strain on the CV joints when I turned (slipping??). I took the tail shaft out and have been driving it as a front wheel drive. No more clunking noise and seems to go a lot better. Have bought another tail shaft (which includes VC) from a wrecker ($660 AUD) but I haven't fitted it yet. I am hoping that will cure the clunking noise. Fingers crossed.

As Willing Freelander has said it sounds like a CV joint. This is a Constant Velocity Joint and there are 1 at the outer end of each drive shaft and 1 at the inner end of the driveshafts. Unfortunately I dont know an easy way to work out which one is faulty, but you could start by looking at the rubber covers(boots) that protect the outer CV joints . If any boots are split grease will come out and the CV joint will fail. So look for grease at the drive shaft side of each wheel.http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/members/willing-freelander.html

The rear diff bearings, if worn, can cause the propshaft to lift the rear diff nto the underbody of the car. It's a simple job to change the front rea diff mount.
