Hi,

My starter motor has been steadily dying down today to an extent where it just kind of makes a few slow turns and tons of clicking noises really quickly, and I've had to jump start it twice. I've had a little search around and it's suggested that it could be a bad earth, dirty contacts or knackered brushes, but what are the tell tale signs that I really need to look for?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Sounds more like a knackered battery,

For the earth check the connections are tight and that the earth cable isn't knackered.

For the contacts remove and clean terminals and replace Checking that they feel tight when fitted.

If the Bushes or the solenoid is knackered then you'll need to remove the starter and either stripdown and repair or easier option exchange for a recon one.

the starter on my TD5 died the other day just kept getting a clicking noise.got a new plunger and contacts for £20 sorted it out and it only took 40min to get out and refit.
