I have just been speaking to a local dealer who was having a look at my 94 Disco 300 Tdi who reckons that the chassis is fairly rotten with rust. I had a fair idea when we got it that this may be the case.

There are other miscellaneous probs; kingpin bearing in steering shot, couple of hubs leaking etc.

I am not sure whether it is time to cut losses and try and get rid of it.

Pretty gutted, any magic that could be recommended??

I can pull a rabbit out of a hat.

Get shut of it, unless you wanna do a full bottom up rebuild.
Most things on a disco are repairable or replaceable, but the chassis is the bit you want sound.

Update

Speaking a bit more to some places over here, it looks like a suitable 'donor' chassis might become available in the coming days. Has anyone experience of this? He said there are 14 main bolts, then the operation is simple, he has done a couple.

if its any thing like mine, its simple on paper but once you start thats when you find all the other things that need doing.. before you know it you have stripped it down to the last nut an bolt and are now surrounded by the worlds biggest pile of things. this is when your bank account starts to go down quicker than a ho on the titanic
