hi guys, only have one key for my 1998 p38 and it is broken! im going to go to the main steeler tomorrow and order a new one. my question is will it all be already set up for my car ,ie will i have to take the car to the dealer so they can program the key to the car? id rather just leave it where it is rather than mucking about with the eka code and driving it down there. and dose anyone know what the normal time limit it is to receive the key once ordered? many thanks, tom.

I think its about 2 weeks wait?? or about that, you have to take all your docks in and the chassis numbers etc vin etc, but you can synchronise it yourself when you get it, i know they are expensive to get, you should have got 2 electronic ones and an emergency key with you Range Rover

Dont be tempted yo get one from ebay it wont work

Dopey is right, it normally takes up to 2 weeks. Apparently, they cut them in the UK and send them to Huf in Germany for programming. You could try putting a bit of pressure on the Stealer to see if they can rush it through. Problem with some owners who sell the car is that they are like magpies when it comes to parting with all the keys.
TIP...When you get the key, ask the Stealer for the Lockset Code no. which consists of a string of around 14 characters-it should be on the bag that the key comes in. Most important piece of information if ever you need work on your BECM.
The key may need syncronising, but usually they work ok.

thanks irish rover when u say locks do you mean that im Abel to buy all 4 original keys? also i was thinking about putting a trickle charger on the car for a bit just to keep the battery top up.can i connect it to the battery without taking the leads off. just thinking it may fook something up or burn something out.cheats tom.

Hi Tom...............
The Lockset Code no. is the unique code no. which matches the keys to the VIN and BECM on your car. This is the reason that second hand keys are useless as their lockset code will only work with the matching BECM and all the locks.
You can buy a full set of keys-if you want to splash the cash.
If the BECM has to be replaced at any time, the Lockset code has to be programmed in to the new one together with the EKA code. If it is not readily available, whoever is changing it has the hassle of getting it from a Stealer which can take a couple of days.
When my P38 is not being used for a decent length of time, I always connect a trickle charger to the battery and leave it on. I do not disconnect the battery leads and have never had any problems.:tea:
