Freelander 2 (LR2) Key fob stuck and battery dead

Hi everybody! I'm looking for a bit of advice if possible. When I tried to start my Freelander 2 (2010) this morning, the message "Reduced Engine Performance" displayed on the dash and the engine wouldn't start. There was power, but it wouldn't start and the key fob wouldn't release from the dock. The battery is now completely dead and the key fob is still stuck.

I've bought a new battery but want to check (and sorry if this is a stupid question) - is there any issue changing the battery with the key fob being docked? Are there any other issues I need to keep in mind when changing the battery in this situation?

If you are worried, connect jump leads and remove the key, then change the battery as normal

I don't know of any issues relating to changing the battery with the key docked. Needs must I suppose. Working out why the battery died is also worth considering.
