Been looking at the kenlowe electric fans and wondered if one of these would be any good to replace my knackered viscous fan on my 2.5 BMW diesel..? Its ok while moving but goes up to the red after been stood still for 5 mins or so..

SO whats the diff between these kenlowe fans and ...wel..normal ones?

Kenlowes are electric and do not require any power from the engine to run them via a belt like the conventional viscous fan.
A viscous fan can take as much as 10 bhp to run it when its 'locked in' to cool which uses more fuel.
You can also independantly (if wired up to do so) switch off the electric fan when wading so as to not throw water/mud up over the engine or the distributor on a V8.

oooh. Easy to change?

Follow the instructions that come with the kit :p
No, seriously, anyone with a basic understanding of wiring and some mechanical aptitude will find it a doddle to fit.
Choose the right fan either a blower which mounts on the front of the radiator or a sucker which mounts on the engine side of the rad.
Kits should come with a temperature sensor which sits in the top radiator hose (just remove the pipe, slide the probe in and refit the pipe) and an adjustible thermostat so you can set what temperature you want the fan to cut in.
The wiring amounts to just hooking up the fan motor and the themostat to a relay which is connected to the battery, quite simple really. ;)

This sounds like the way forward on my L322 Diesel which has a sticky viscous fan. Where can I get an electric fan kit from?

Cheers Ian

Stupid Q.....why ?

Also, you aint TOO far for me to drive down. Beer tokens if I decide I need a hand? :) Also, no wiring experience.

Cos they can be a bugger to unscrew off the water pump, peeps often don't realise that its a left hand thread on a 300 TDI.

How far is TOO far??
Don't mind at all giving you a hand but you'll need to be flexible with times as my work schedule is kinda hectic at the mo, what with moving house anorl
