The Mobile Mechanic arrived yesterday to fit the two new(Recon) Calipers, New Pads, New sliders and change the Brake Fluid. He told me it will take 50/60 miles for the Pads to Bed in? because now there seems to be too much play in the pedal but she does stop well. He only charged me £45 where as the local Land Rover specialist told me he would charge £150. As far as the Brake fluid is concerned he told me he only had to change the front, is this correct?
While I"m on I"m considering upgrading to a Mark 2 around 2008/2009.
Is it my imagination but does the Mark 2 Freelander sit higher on the road?

That's correct, I'd say 150 miles, if the original rotors were retained. If new rotors are fitted at the same time, then bed in time is reduced to 50 miles or so.
As far as the Brake fluid is concerned he told me he only had to change the front, is this correct

If he clamped the front flexi pipes (I would), then only the front requires bleeding, although I'd generally bleed the whole system, as it should done every 2 year's anyway.

You mean the Freelander 2, it's a completely different vehicle, so isn't a MK2 at all. It's so different, it only shares 1 part in common with the FL1, which are the little bag clips in the boot. ;)

Yes it's bigger in all dimensions to the FL1, longer, wider, higher with much bigger wheels and about 20 years more modern to drive too. ;)
Be aware, that in general, the FL2 is more expensive to repair than the FL1, but apparently it's more reliable (mine hasn't been great), so shouldn't need so many parts.

Oh and don't over pay for lower spec FL2, as they're not worth as much later on. For me the SE or HSE was the only choice, as I wanted lots of equipment as standard.

I've got the same issue with my FL2, so I've got a pair of new calipers to fit soon.
 
Thanks for all the advice. Yes I do mean the Freelander 2. The ones I"ve seen have all been around the £3750 up to £4500 are these a reasonable price ofr 2007 cars?

Cost depends on model spec, condition and what mileage is on it.

I paid £2000 for my nice looking 124k SE with an engine fault, which turned out to be a nut in the cylinder. :eek:
Mine has needed some work to get it right, and I've still got to sort out the rear diff, the slight misfire, replace the front brakes and service the AWD system, then I hope it’s set for use. All up mine should come in at about £2800, which is about 1/2 it's value, if I'd bought it without the issues.
I'm happy to swap my time, for about £3000. :)
