K & N Filter

Many years ago I thought it would be good to fit one to an Audi I had, just because I thought it was "cool" to have a K&N filter, in reality it was a waste of money!

You won't notice any difference to performance. A dyno *might* show a very small increase in power, but in the real world it makes bollocks all difference! Anyone who says they can tell a difference of 1 or 2 bhp (if it even makes that much difference) is lying!

I know you are not talking about this, but those "K&N cone" filters that everyone thinks look cool & "improve" their bling'd up Saxo/Corsa etc. actually reduce performance because they draw in hot air from the engine compartment!

The only real difference with a K&N is the fact that you don't need to replace it at every service, but given the cost of buying them, it takes a many services to get your money back. Personally I'd prefer to put a clean paper one in anyway then I know it is clean as I couldn't be bothered to clean the K&N properly at every service because I am lazy!

IMHO save your money to fix the suspension when it dies! :)

Matt.

There's a later post about these. I fitted one to my 2.5 DSE and gained a definite 1 mpg on local runs. I think they are worth it as you don't need to buy any more after you fit the K & N and any fuel gain is worth it with today's cost of fuel.:)
