Having had no problems with wiring on my Def90 200tdi for yonks, today my luck appears to have run out!

#1 challenge - horn, interior light, h/l flash have ceased to function, but fuse is OK?

#2 challenge - rear fog light comes on with rear wiper!

Have not been fiddling about, it's just gone bonkers!

Any obvious cause a numpty like me should look for?

Cheers

Hi fella, long time no speak.
You have a problem along the lines of mine where the wipers come on when flashing lights or operating main beam. I have had numerous tries at fixing it as have a good many others on other forums. Earths seem to be the problem and one of them seems to be on a ground distributor which is apparently housed above and behind the fusebox area. This solved the problem for one guy but I have had most of my dash apart and can't find it! Another fella found the earth wires (4 x blacks) going into a small grey plug and found it covered in soot due to sparking. He'd had the same symptoms as you and cleaning the contacts solved it. This I did find behind the lighter and rear wiper switches but mine were clean. Hope that helps a little but anything else you find out I'll be interested in knowing. Oh the other earth point to check is on the bulkhead in the engine bay pretty much behind the clocks. Again mine were clean but it sorted it for someone else. Have fun, Andy.

Thanks Chaps

Sleeves rolled up in the morning! Will share the experience after either a) I fix it or b) recover from the hypothermia!

well bugger me.....

after several sessions involving skinned knuckles, swearing, blaming wife, son, royal mail and labour government - I fixed it!!

errmm, the fuse:doh:, although not blown, was not fitting/contacting correctly - so back feeding earth was causing some bizarre behaviours.

I now have the horn(!), the lights and a rear wiper that is not a foglamp....joy:p

Cool ... pleased you fixed it fella. Was it just one of the spade fuses in the fusebox behind the gear stick? Something I haven't checked on mine even though I've taken most of the dash apart!

Yup - 20A blighter top left. Took out skinny Halfords one and put a fatter one in and job jobbed....
