thought i would have a go at the hand brake today as it didn't hold very well.took the propshaft off and found that the doughnut was fooparred,
no screw holding the drum on.so that came off very easy, but never expected to see so much oil contamination..so now need new doughnut new brake linings and a new rear transfer box oil seal, oh the joys of DIY eh.:(

Just think how much a garage would have charged you just to know what you need to fix....

There DIY seems better already doesn't it!

Even on jobs I can't or on't have the time or equipment to tackle, I will still do the diagnosis myself where possible, as for some faults, that can be more expensive than the fix!

you dont need the screw, fill rear of seal with vaseline or similar to hold garter spring in place while fitting ,
thank you for the advice, much appreciated just got to clean the garage floor up now, drained what was left of the gear oil in the transfer box ahem! guess who forgot it was there oh well at least the floorb won't go rusty. after four years of being without a disco i must admit it is rather nice to get my hands dirty.
