Apart from the interior and the rear tray lid, I like it. Doubt it should still be on that number plate though

praps it a take out interiour for the beach as a windbreak, or fire starter :rolleyes:

but i do remember austin champs havin wooden duck boards on the floors, with holes to let the water out as "normal"

or was me mates champ "one of a kind"..:D

that V dub sand rail could use parts of vw floor to get round rego probs,
just a body change,
couple of rear mudguards made from the tread of wide tyres fitted close to the M/T`s,
(or take a fibreglass mold of M/Ts tread)
dont know the recient laws on front guards now tho`
could do same I guess.
looking at lotus 7`s some of them hardly got any mudguards eh?

Oh, forgot, the "paint" ok rust..
wtf, rust IS a V-dub thing, they rust `em on purpose, trust me!
my son is also a V-Dub club "member"
had an immaculat beetle cabrio, rubbed parts of it down, then poured battery acid over it to MAKE it go rusty,
then proudly drove it.
sometimes the V-Dub boys then clear laquer it to "stop it" going more rusty..I kid you not!

Ive seen this kind of thing done before with Landys. The concept is pretty cool but the execution in this case was subpar.

'Blows everyones mind how alloy and wood can rust' Why not just not paint the wood rust?

In each and every different group of enthuisiasts you get those that think and do outragous things,
but among themselves its kinda cool.
take a look at our humble landrovers for Instance.
nice early series with history galore, taken to bits and just about everything changed to make it different, cool to those doingit,
a WTF moment to those who dont understand why.

In this great country, at the moment (how much longer I dont kow)
we get away with 99% of every change we do on our cars/toys/hobbies.

In spain, MOT every 2 years - great, but then its not!
we have vespa scoots in southern spain - nice - but,
to spanish mot, everything thats been altered HAS to go back to standard,
including the exhaust as they use a noise measuring machine FFS!

Bikers over here are being herded into the new french laws on just what you MUST wear while riding,
even us dear old car/landy drivers taking a day trip over from dover to calais must by law carry so much extra kit,
of be nicked to fcuk for not doing so.
So, are we happy europeans,
or are we heading into bland boring land with aftermarket shops going out of business like a famine....

The likes of rust making paint are numbered,
unless its for yer sheds or deck chairs,
eh?

ok, if you re read the write up,
its just a series body "dropped or chanelled (amerincan expression) " over a complete running & driving VW beatle chassis.
the current trend in V-Dubs is to shorten the width of the front axle to hide the wheels, when the suspension is almost non existant leaving the underbody to scrape the tarmac.

its all completely alien to offroad landy pilots..
V-Dubbers are heros for dropping the motors,
Landie pilots go all out for lift kits...

horses for courses, as were landie owners looking out in the unknown eh.

as I said ealier, my only son is also a V-Dub fanatic/scooter restorer so I get to see & drive/ride "different" things.
Oh, my son hates my Landie!....:eek:..but then . :D:D:D
as I now only get to drive it.

(but he is gratefull I got a solid towbar to collect his "spares or repairs" V-W`s)
 
How does that rust paint stuff work? Does it put down a protective layar first then the rust paint, or, if you paint it onto steel will it just make the steel rust?
 
Not keen on that one, interior is nasty and the roof looks wrong! LR's can look very cool when hotrodded properly, this is one of my favorites from a few years back:
