Just bought my first Landy, 1980 series 3

and that was my best side! ..... Chris, what would you say was a decent price to pay for said car ...... i'm still wondering if I paid over the odds? Was looking on autotrader, ebay, pistonheads etc and prices seem all over the place. Yours looks a beaut from what i can see on that small photo.

I bought her as a 400 pound wreck invested hundreds of hours and some money restoring her! Had her professionally valued at 10 thousand pounds NOT showing off but prices for these old girls are continually rising so are becoming an investment as they gain popularity with classic car enthusiasts. Chris, your landy looks amazing, total respect to what you have have done to it, a real credit to your skills. The idea behind me purchasing one came from my commute. I work in London, commuting from kent 5 days a week. In the morning I would get a bus to the station, but because I didn't return until 8pm, the buses would stop running and the wife would have to come out and pick me up ...... fast forward 5 years and she has had enough, so said to me to buy a car to drive to the station. I did the only decent thing and bought an old landy! Well I've always wanted one, but the longer I looked I couldn't see a decent one in my price bracket of under 5 grand. So mine will be used about 18 miles a day, touch wood, so far has started on the button. Hope to sympathetically tidy it up a bit, not too much as I quite like the "character" look...... famous last words!
Can I ask where you go for bits and bobs as there seems loads of places out there? I've been mostly buying from ebay so far.
Solvista, I was reading your post last night, love the colour, do you have problems with parts over there?

A good looking unspoiled landy - congratulations. One big advantage you will find - you never lose it on a carpark!

where i park it, there is a police station, a quick word with them (a couple of big landy fans) and it's parked next to the squad cars all day and they are keeping an eye on it for me!

I'm new to this too Mark. Like you, I've wanted one for years and finally did the deed mid-December. I'm in uk at the moment, so I ordered the bits I desperately need from Paddocks/Craddocks (even though I'm staying around the corner from Rimmer bros. - literally).

There are places in Spain, but the afore-mentioned "-addocks" both deliver quite reasonably to Spain if I order enough to warrant it.

Mark my local Landrover dealer has no series backstock left so as a lot comes in packs of 10 etc etc I use the 4x4 father and son business in Gosberton Riesgate near Spalding if I want GENUINE PARTS! Otherwise I have found FAMOUS FOUR in Louth to be helpful bunch of guys EVEN when I must have been the most irritating finicky customer requiring those hard to get fasteners and fittings and MORE! LOL

Chris, just been on the Famous Four site, have a nice selection. I'm with you, I prefer genuine parts too.

I tend to buy from www. LR Series, as I can see if I'm buying a genuine part and avoid Britpart brand for important items.
A lovely looking original Landy by the looks of things.....will need frequent checks, top ups and repairs but all part of the experience. You don't see many genuine original models in excellent solid condition under £5k these days. Have fun.

Hi Mark - my frst drive in my S3 was pretty terrifying as well. I had heard the steering would be heavy, but my one was impossibly hard to steer. And incredibly imprecise. So when approaching another car along a narrow lane I felt it was touch and go whether I would get past it safely.
It turned out the track rod ends were virtually seized and after I had changed them and the swivles, the steering has been fine. Completely precise and only heavy when trying to do a parallel parking manouver. Since getting her three years ago as a non-runner, after getting the engine sorted out, and then the steering and swivles and front bearing, she has sailed through every MOT and been completely reliable on my daily journeys to the station. Hi Justin, really appreciate the help of input. Since I bought the old girl, it's rain solidly everyday ive had off. Still haven't been over it properly, but it's running fine, have a few issues with tin worm, footwells, tool seat box..
What i'm lacking is knowledge at the moment. I'm reading all i can, but would be great to hook up with other experienced landy owners. Are there any meets in Kent you go to Justin?

First drove my series when i was 12. First time i drove it at speed (round 65- 70 ) was interesting as at higher speeds i found the steering goes lighter. Love the driving experience though as its proper driving with no driver aids
