Well it took a while but i finally bought an extreme disco.
Don't know if i have to post this elsewhere but i have a few issues with the drive home (hopefully mods will move if need be)
firstly the steerings all over the place when you release the throttle which if i'm correct is down to the camber/castor?.
Secondly,is there a heavy duty steering relay that can be fitted as if this is how it handles on tarmac i fail to see how it would be any better off road.
Thirdly, when releasing the clutch,no matter how gently there is a loud clunk as it engages.
any advice would be well received.
thank's in advance.:rolly:

Clunk on releasing clutch is wear in the drivetrain, either propshaft UJ's, Rear axle A frame. worn diffs or worn Transferbox input shaft/gears.twitchy steering can be many things from worn components to bent trackrod or draglink. You'll need to get underneath and have a proper look to see if theirs any obvious faults. sometimes it 's something simple like a knackered steering damper.. Sometimes it's a combination of everything been worn and no one item is to blame..

Do a search on here.. plenty of threads on how to cure dodgy steering..

.

just a bit more info on the truck,
2" body lift
plus 3" shocks
16" modular wheels
dislocation cones
bob-tailed
new prop hardy splicers just fitted.

Sorry I thought in your original post you'd said it was extreme?? That list sounds a bit tame.. But you could have a look at the thread entitled "thinking of lifting your landrover? read this first" has a whole list of possible side effects to be encountered..

Nice one bud, Some people on here have a habbit of making new people feel small,

How ever compared to alot of discos it is in the 'Normal' category yet when compared to the school run its extreme

Hope it works out well for you bud

:confused::confused::confused:

How are 16" modulars extreme and are you saying its had a body lift but not a suspension lift ? If so why the need for +3 shocks ?

Granted the bobtailed part is slightly different to an average school-run disco but seeing as you have a bobtail you should be comparing it to other bobtails in which case its pretty standard

I'm new to this game so i could do without sarcastic remarks thank's

Unfortunately LZ runs on sarcasm and ****taking.. IT's not personal. It's just the way things are done.

and whilst your disco may seem a bit extreme to you. the mods that have been done aren't really that extreme at all. As well as this. Calling a Landy a "Truck" is like calling the pope a Proddy  It ****es people off..

It has had a 2" suspension lift as well as other stuff fitted but i was just mentioning the relevant mods that could be causing the problems.
I wasn't sure if the suspension/body lift required camber/castor correction doing to correct the problem as it hasn't been done at the mo.

thank's for that.

if it's had a body and suspension lift then that is going to make it less stable to start with. Disco's aren't exactly endowed with racing car type road holding. what sort of speeds were you doing when the steering problems started.

It does sound like someone has done half a job on it though But you really need to post better details of exactly what has been changed..

Have you any experience of driving land rovers or any 4x4's previously? Alot of Discos get a bit of diff slap, a small amount is acceptable although your definition of a small amount will differ to others.

What tyres are fitted and how bigs the lift? Tyres can make a big difference to road handling, combined with a suspension lift (meaning no roll bars) it can feel a very different beast to a normal car, the body has alot of roll and movement in it and the transfer of weight combined with tall tyres can make the vehicle seem to dive all over the place. Best thing to do is get someone experienced to take it up the road (if your not experienced that is).

As for the steering relay, am I getting it right that the steering is too heavy? It could be a siezed damper, its easy enough to knock the bolt off and see how it is after, if its a massive improvement then get a new damper. It could also be a worn out PAS pump but I dont believe they are known for this. It could just be big tyres again, how wide are they?

As for the 'truck' thing, it bugs me that people get bugged at it being called a truck, I call mine a truck, its a a simple reference to a large vehicle. If people dont like it then thats their problem, I dont like people that think the world should play to their rules!!

And as for your 'extreme' comment, to an 'outsider' it is extreme, I get plenty of comments about mine and all I have got is a lift, wheels, bumpers, lights and a winch (plus all the guards and a few other non visable bits obviously). Mine looks a beast next to a standard disco but you wouldnt even notice it on a greenlane nights lineup.

Oh and welcome to Landyzone, you will get abused by some and helped out by others, hopefully you will get the answers eventually

i only got back with it late last night so haven't had chance to check anything out yet.
i was averaging 60/65 mph on the way home (but it still did it at low speed) as i had to drive from poole to scunthorpe but the problem was highlighted when i took my foot off the throttle(it was like the rear end was trying to push the hole vehicle forward like in a rear end shunt)
that's the best way i can describe it.
