I have all the bolts and cables removed from my r380 gearbox and without the aid of a hoist, just wondered where the best balance point for a trolley jack would be to lower it to the ground. also should i remove the mountings from the crossmember then remove the crossmember before lowering it or leave it on the gearbox. Hopefully should have it winging its way over to Lincs very soon. Cheers. Ps gearbox and t.box still bolted together.

I removed mine manually (ie standing astride it and lowered it to the ground between my legs) both units bolted together and found that the transfer-box was definitely the heavier of the two by a large margin. When it came to re-installing I fitted the gearbox first and then fitted the transfer-box onto the back of this (both manually again). In both instances I left the cross-member in place and lower the units to the ground behind it (towards the rear of the vehicle) ,
As for a balance point, no idea. Sorry. :(

Cheers Litch. Did you have the seat box out? Cant see the bellhousing going over the crossmember and under the front edge of seat box! Maybe im wrong? If so ill give it a try. Dont want it balanced on trolley jack only to fall off when i pull it off engine. Leaving crossmember in would make life easier.

Did mine manually on the 110
Took transfer box off first
Removed tunnel and took selector off top
Slid gearbox back and down to floor, dragged it out with about an inch or two clearance me thinks under chassis
Kept seatbox in place and cross member
My truck runs Tdci bulkhead and tunnel , it's 300 Tdi but the transmission bit should physically be similar for you
