Good evening guys. As my title says I want to replace v8 motor and a mate has a rover 400 diesel lump with box so I was wondering if it could fit and be useable? If not what other engine could be used. I'm not made of money so have to Bere that in mind. Looking forward to your Stella advice guys. Also if you know anyone who has a engine and box forsale.
Cheers guys
Dave

he’s talking about his disco I think.

It will end up being a diesel 2.0 aka a disco MPI ( although they were petrol) they were so underpowered in the disco they were considered as very poor.
our defender just about makes it work to be honest.

I think the diesel is basically the same as the petrol so it will bolt up to the r380 box as Lr did.

TBH I would not bother ;) sounds like a lot of hassle.

stick with the v8, what’s wrong with it?

If that is a 2 litre naturally aspirated diesel, and if the wheels, tyres, and driving style are as pictured in your avatar, that is going to be a slow as a cruise ship with a Seagull outboard on the back.

What's wrong with your V8 anyway?

Had a over heat, changed heads put arc studs in. Runs OK but confidence with engine totally gone. Stupid I know but there it is. The factory fitted temp gauge goes to hot the other one I installed shows all good coming off top hose. Can you put the thermostat connector on back to front? Totally scratching my aching brain cell.

Relax. It will be fine when the weather is cooler.
Try backing off the throttle a bit, it will probably save you some money in fuel as well. :)

Changing the odd head or thermostat is much easier than changing the whole engine.

Does it slowly go to hot or straight up. It’s possible it’s failing. If your aftermarket 1 reads ok I would tend to believe it’s correct
Does it feel over hot when the factory gauge shows hot?
I would be inclined to replace the factory sensor they are not a lot.

Stick with the V8

That is the most unusual justification for getting/keeping a V8 that I have ever read on LZ.

And I have read some pretty strange stuff on the forum! :vb-confused2:

Is that a Lake?

Very still. Better conditions for motoring than sailing. :)
Oulton Broad
Fresh to salt locks behind me.
They do power boats and sailing here.
As it’s a Sunday they would have been sailing today as the big buoys are still out.

It’s was probably slow sailing today that’s for sure ;)

I thought it was in Bulgaria.

I have been to Oulton Broad, but as I was about 9 at the time, my memories are indistinct.

Excellent!

Off to see mine in the morning. She is alive, which, considering the doc thought she would have been dead a year ago is good going.
They can be tough/stubborn people when they want;)
My Dad never leaves anything on his plate says it’s cos he’s a war baby :)
He even drank the last of the gravy out of the gravy boat today so he’s feeling better too, he wasn’t good with Mum in hospital.

Have a good visit :)
