jate rings

does anyone know how to fit jate rings to a hippo as am thinking of getting it very wet so might need a slight tow out

you would need a chassis to use jate rings........ i dunno what you can do to a freelander

Tow hitch is probably your best bet

got tow hitch for towing caravan is that enough you see the wife wont let me get anything decent till she sees if she enjoys offroading so dont want to ruin first time out with her or she will just moan :blabla::blabla::blabla:

You are supposed to use the towing eyes in the bumpers front and back. Rumour has it that you can suspend the whole vehicle from these if you had to! I attach a carabiner to these and pass the rope or strop through that. I wouldn't use the tow hitch which is designed for a relatively light load in one direction.

towing eyes/lashing points are not sufficient for recovery use. the fact you use a "carabiner" to secure your recovery gear says it all

CARABINER?BLoody hell!Nutter!Youd rather use that (designed to take small strains in a single direction, the screwgate will be stamped at 0kn!!!!!!!!)than a tow bar(designed to pull heavy weights in several given directions, very likey the direction you wanna be recovered in!)

OK depends on what the load is. If being pulled out use a shackle! Lashing eyes are not the same as the towing rings on a freelander. lashing eyes on the sub frame should never be used but the towing rings were designed for recovery.

I use these:

PM643 Pro Comp Recovery Strap. 2in x 30foot. 20,000lb rating.

Lifting and Crane 10mm Commercial Bow Shackle - Machine Mart

You’ll have to visit and check the size of the shackle. Not sure if I picked the one off the list that fits. The normal 4.5 ton shackles wont go through a Freelander towing eye.

if you think that the tow bar is the way to go (used mine a couple of times in that way) it's worth changing it from a 50mm ball to the ball and pin type, so the strop is less likely to slip off.
