I was just wondering, what actually is it that makes the Range Rover better than the alternitives of other nations...the Japs have ultra tech, The yanks have a huge history with the Jeep, and the germans....well..theyre german!!!! But just what is it that makes the Range Rover the 4x4 of choice?

One word, Character! (or maybe soul if thats your inclination!)

The rangies have some technical advantages over most off road but not so much that a bad driver can't f*ck it up or a good driver make up for.

Yeah you've got a good precedent there. The TVR wasn't any really any better than say a Honda NSX, BMW Z8 or Corvette but it reached out to you in ways the opposition never did (not that I've ever driven any of them but I've read just about every review ever written!). I'm sure it left you sitting on the side of road withs various bits broken off in a way the say Honda neeever would but would you ever get out of the honda with as big a grin as you would with the TVR, not a chance. You' just get out of it with a smaller grin far more often :D:D

Welcome to the world of Range Rover motoring (~non), big frowns, even bigger grins, dirty fingernails and empty pockets ;)

JEEP, Just Enough Essential Parts i think enough said on that one
jap 4x4. well this comes from a nation who cant cook fish and eat dogs.
range rover no matter if its a 1970 model or a 2010 they all have a certain quality, can be on the farm all day and still look great outside the 5 star grub house. people think you are a wealthy land owner no matter what model you have, its just the most notorious 4x4 . or as land rover said
the best 4x4xfar.

I think what sets the range rover apart is its class, style and durability. it looks like a tank standing still but when its moving it looks nimble and versatile.

just my 2 cents

The proportions are what do it. They're all spot on from the 2 door original up to the newest L322 - excepting the sport which is probably an excellent vehicle but somehow just doesn't seem to gel the same as the proper Rangies. The other thing I get out of it is the sense of occasion every time you get in and go somewhere. They're far from perfect as we all well know. And you'll never get any jap or german crap being exhibited at the L'ouvre as a work of art as the original was. Sums it up really.

The classic is just so good looking, no offence to you later model guys but I just love the look of the classic from 69 to 95 its just great! v8 sounds like a car should too!

its the only car ever in that french art museme that I cant spell, I have been told, because of its looks!

thought you bought it mate:hysterically_laughi

Not sure about many other countries, although they were exported to most. But The Ozzies hate the range rover. Mostt vehicles there are land cruisers.

Sorry. I'll shall just change my last statement. The Ozzies hate Land Rovers of all descriptions.

the yanks love a rangie, and so do the new zealanders, well sought after in spain as long as they are diesel, and the dutch boys really love them. and the pope of course lol.

Wrong!! quite a number like Land Rovers, most of the Muts that have Jap Crap never take em off road, they dont need a proper 4X4, just something that gets along the blackstuff quickly, and unfortunately that is where Land Rover fares miserably in comparison. But in the bush tis a different matter, there are thousands of Landies over here, quite common actually, so don't know where you got your info, possibly off a Toyota web site.

Range rover with a 'bodykit' on it = dealer
Range rover with some abhorrent aftermarket tat stuck on = struggling dealer

Standard Range rover, there's just something about 'em that I like - even though I am a bit of a die-hard german car fan, the dse p38 my folks own (which I drive waaaay more than them, and look after) ... ok its slow, ok the dashboard isn't particularly nice, its noisy, handles like a ship, has the turning circle of a cruise liner ... but feels pretty damned nice to be in, quite happily get some serious miles in!

Not sure whether I'd consider a later model (due to footballer-esq image) but i'd be tempted to have a drive!

theres a certain amount of kudos (excuss the spelling) when driving a range rover. the japs, yanks and krauts just cant match. (for me anyway) and i beleive that the comment about the RR having soul is spot on. Also there is the risk factor that keeps us on the edge of our seats, will it make it home? etc.

definately a love hate relationship with your RR. i love it when shes running right and hate it when shes not.. but even when she not working right i still wouldnt think about swapping her for a jap, kraut or yank.
