Ive got the same tank guard and I agree its a massive pain to fit seeing as ill probably go rear bed tank sometime soon it was abit pointless but there you go

I'm hoping this one won't be pointless with the effort it took! I kind of had to cheat and not use one of the bolts on the back bracket, and cut the edge off so my rocksliders will fit. Which still don't fit, but I'll work it out!

There is also about 1/2 inch gap between the sill and the slider on one side and nothing on the other, so it either came out of the factory like that, or has twisted at some point.

For KOV ive got to have a welded link between the front amd rear hoops so the bottom slider will have to be welded on which would make it impossible to remove the tank guard so ill have to move the tank :(

Yeah thats landrover build quality for you

Never had a tank guard on either main or aux tank though was thinking about it but now the cost and pain involved has decided me against it - but then never had any trouble even driving a bit recklessly in very rocky riverbeds - pushed my luck now probably.

It depends where your tank is. The rear one was easy as long as you have some spare large washers, which I had to buy. But the side one was a pain and I probably wouldn't bother.

I'll get a steering guard before the trip too.

We failed :(

You got full marks for trying though!

I took Doug his socket back and he is going to talk to tyremiles and see if they will drop by to see if they can shift it. Guess they have a compressor on their van or something.

Apparently he vaguely remembers using super strength loctite on it.

THE BOLT IS OFF!!! Apparently.

Tyremiles have got the bolt off, which is awesome. Means I will try to do the cam belt tonight or Friday.

Woohoo, I have finally managed to do some stuff!

Did the cam belt, got the new one on
WP_20141029_19_06_27_Pro_zpsc67153fe.jpg

and put my new wading cover on and put it all back together

I didn't do the seals as they didn't seem to be leaking oil in any significant way and I couldn't get the old one out.
Then I got one of the wings on :)

They don't really line up, but I think that is due to the big dent above the tdi sticker...

I started to fit the intercooler too, but it just made me angry as it wouldn't fit so I gave up for the evening!

Tomorrows job is to finish fitting the intercooler, then tidy up some cabling and the general engine bay, then hopefully start it and move it back to my shed. It's windy where it currently is...

It's running!

This morning I changed the oil filter, filled with oil, connected the remaining cooling pipes and filled with coolant, then connected the intercooler and pipes.

After a bit of smoking from the starter motor it pulled the diesel through and started straight up. I am amazed!

So drove it out of where it was, looks weird without the spats.

But it was windy so moved back to my shed and started putting the front end together.

Got the air filter piping connected and sealed together, ready for the snorkel to go on. Changed the air and fuel filters and then put the new chequer plate and vents on. Then got the grille fitted. Just need to connect the bonnet release and space the wings out a bit as they are squeezing the grille a bit.

Think it looks pretty cool and really pleased with how much I have done today. It sounds pretty meaty with the straight through exhaust, hope it isn't too loud inside.
