So today I have ordered a straight through exhaust pipe and a TD5 back box. Hopefully it all fits together as exhausts are new to me! Can I just use normal bolts?

Also had to order a new A frame fulcrum bracket as the old ball joint seems to have fused to it. At least it is one thing that I won't have to paint...

Anyone got any hints on how to remove the A frame arms from the old chassis, nothing seems to budge and I can't get a grinder to it.

Also, how can companies on ebay charge £150 for a new fulcrum and balljoint when you can get them both from LR Direct for about £50? And that is a decent delphi ball joint...

well x2 actually, as I destoyed one trying to get the b****rd back in :mad:
So in the end I went to the local Landranger and they pressed the new one in for a £10 result

Yeah, I hadn't even considered getting it back together! Will I not be able to do it in a vice?

Might need to use some heat

I thought that, but I don't have anything to heat it up with and feel bad asking someone for help all of the time.

they are a right ARSE to get back in
getting it out was oki soaked it in acid wheel cleaner then wacked it with the hammer a few times and it shot out

I thought that, but I don't have anything to heat it up with and feel bad asking someone for help all of the time.

Our press will push it in a piece of **** mate if you're struggleing come up after 5 sometime.
 
Bout time I updated this thread. Still struggling with time a bit, but have spent all of today working on it.

Got my rear axle about finished, pending a couple of bushes

Then started mounting the axle on the chassis, but I was missing the big thick washers that go either side of the shocks.

Then I spent a while tidying my shed.

Hopefully I will manage to find an engine lift soon, then I will be able to crack on at a faster pace
 
The polished cupro nickle brake pipes I ordered from ebay just turned up. As brake pipes go they are pretty nice lookin!

For £90 they are good value too, though I guess I won't know until fitting.

we can compare after fitting! Just bought 20ft of 3/16 tube and a handful of fittings for E30. Will be at them the weekend hopefully.

Yea, though I didn't have a flaring tool, and didn't want to risk doing it myself on brakes!

I'm still hoping to find an engine lift before the weekend, or I'm going to be struggling for jobs. Unless anyone has an idea how I can remove the front axle with the engine still being there.

I dont think the big wheels are going to fit mate :eek:
 
Id say whatever those tyres fit on, or whatever machine you have to drag it along will be more than capable of lifting it out. Can you rig up a pulley over the engine?

I have sorted one out now, hopefully going to pick a hoist up tomorrow morning.

Nah, the wheels are off a sprayer, wouldn't help me much! We have a telehandler on the farm, but the shed is too low to lift the engine with it!

Had a productive evening, got the ARB back on with new joints, the shocks on and put some of my shiny new brake pipes on. They need straightening up a bit, but I'm pretty pleased.

One question, where do people get nuts from? I bought a load, but they seem to be too coarse a thread for the shock absorber hanger and I know nothing about them!
 
Nother update.

Got the engine out! With help from my friend Rich.

Also got virtually everything off the chassis, so tomorrows job will be wire brushing it back and trying to get it sold so I can get some space back in my shed. I will also start refurbing the front axle.

An interesting story is that I decided to angle grind the tops of the old shocks off, as I couldn't top them spinning. I ground most of the way and then hit it with a hammer. It popped off with quite a lot of pressure, right across the shed, bounced off the roof and dented my wing. Damn...

A good source is westfieldFasteners.co.uk or a2stainless.co.uk

A quick and sometimes cheaper source on ebay is aboltfromtheblue (ebay shop) but I've had some "interesting" shaped bolt come from them, e.g:
