Hi I am after some advice about my 1997 range rover 2.5dt the clutch was done 18 months ago so the last owner told me I brought it this morning got it home and charged the battery and after about 20 minutes or so I had no clutch I could get all gears with out using the clutch so I was wondering if it could be the clutch or something else any advice would be great if you or anyone can help I would appreciate it very much thank you

I have drive I can get a gear but not using the clutch when I hear it in gear it drives
getting all gears without using the clutch was confusing
slave cylinder acts on a lever on the side of the bell housing this turns the shaft and so clutch fork the spiral pins holding the fork to shaft often break, get someone to press the clutch pedal whilst you see if lever moves fully or not

Hi mate it just goes to the floor and and It comes up a little bit and then I have to pull it it the rest of the way

What's the fluid like ? Clean or mucky? - If clean it's probably the slave that has died, if mucky, probably the master .... for the cost might be worth replacing both ..... search on here for some advice on how careful you need to be changing the slave ....

As per JM's post above, here's the system:-

I was under when the wife was pressing the clutch pedal down and the lever did not move

I was hoping it would have been the slave and not the clutch as it is big money for a clutch thank you

Well, as I said in post #8, and JM has just said in post 12 - it is probably the slave ........ ( but might be the master .... or a leaking pipe - possibly in about that order of likelihood:rolleyes: )

As you've just mentioned the clean fluid, then this adds more weight to it being the slave - there are two, depending on your VIN :)

I have only seen the one on the side of the gear box
