Jai's 88 Inch CCV Trialler First Self Build

Hello LZ Members,

This thread is intended to be a source of motivation to myself to keep going with the project I have started. Mabe a source of information for others and a learning process for myself. It not going to be completed overnight and I'm not investing lots of money but I can live with it taking quite alot of time.

Here it goes,

I have already stripped and broken a 200 TDI Discovery, A rarther stripped E Reg 3.5L EFI RR classic is currently on my drive with a recently rebuilt engine which was stripped previously before me because of a selection problem on the LT77 gearbox which is still present and faulty. Kinda hoping its a bias plate but not even interested in looking until its out and easily accesable.

So far I have Brought a cutdown chassis that is a very old RR chassis cut down to 88 inch for £50 which may or may not prove to be a good thing depending on what lies ahead.

Well Guys and girls I'll try and update this as and when I do some work on the project. Please feel free to leave constructive or even non constructive comments. And people please everyone feel free to call me a C**t when I mess somthing up (as I'm sure I will do at some point during the build).

Ok well this afternoon I have Stripped the power steering box and resovoir pipework from the RR and fitted the box to the 88 chassis.

Problems encountered: Well not that many really, the bolts are metric and I assume the chassis was imperial so the box mounting bolts were a tad tight in the chassis which is no bad thing. Also the chassis came with the panard rod/steering box bottom support brackewt already attached to the chassis. I assume this was an older or newer type than the RR because the hole for the bottom supporting pin of the steering box was a much larger size than what was fitted to the RR. Easy fix, I will remove the bracket from the RR and use that one. Alternative could be to change the bottom mount freom the box by replacing this for the correct type but I havent gopt one so I will use the RR mount and keep things all with the correct bits and bobs just in case I ever need any replacement parts.

Tomorrow I might not get too much done. The garden needs a tidy up me thinks before much else commences. Plus I need to get rid of some parts to make space and put some money in the Hybrid Fund.

threads like this are good to keep you going with projects... I had to do the same when I was rebuilding a 1976 CB750.... got so bored of it that I had to open a thread like this on the bike forum to keep me going..

It is scattered with landy bits and beer bottles.SOunds tidy enough for me!

Well its been a while since I posted,
Here is a pic of the idfference in the panard rod to support the steering box. Anyways here is a pic:



I wire brushed an axle down and started to repaint until the shock mount had a nice hole in it. Bugger. That was a disco axle so cira 1990. I had an sxle I stripped from an old RR classic. I got that casing wire brushed down painted and fitted up roughly ready to swap the internals over.



Also managed to remove the Engine and gearbox as one unit from the doner RR today bit of a pain but all went well

Will keep you lot updated as I get on.

Need another pot of yellow paint before I get anymore done. a couple of engine mounts and I think I could almost mount the engine.

Dropped the engine into the chassis engine mounts. At least the heavy work is almost out the way for now anyway.
