I've just ordered 35" tyres. Do I need to change my gearing?

True point regards the AT pattern, ok ok often tyre size is often the limiting factor not tread capability but then again are you really going to need 35s on the lanes!!

I run 33x12.5x15 which actually stand at 32.

3" spring lift, 50mm arches, 10" rims. It's not that it rubs like crazy but it just fits, could do with an inch body lift probably.

Anyway, very clean motor you've got there mate, has it ever been used?!?! :D

Mine's a v8 manual so I actually appreciate the raised gearing, it helps my gas mileage on the motorway. Wish I could fit super low low range though, basically that calls for underdrive and a hole cut out of my floor!

Could change the diff R&P but then I lose my top end economy.

Personally, as above, on an auto I'd heavily consider a ratio change, particularly seeing as a diesel is economical anyway it's not as important to save those couple mpgs...

Cheers :)

ALSO great to see you have fitted aerocatches, I am looking at fitting 4 of them for a fully removeable bonnet. I would really appreciate some more pics of mounting location etc!!

Thanks :)

Despite owning a D1 im still not a huge fan (getting there) but i have to say your's looks cool - mine, despite only 50k mls, still looks like an old / uncool SOS. There are many local guys who trick them out (here in Bulgaria) and they just look like money pit SOS's instead of looking like your does. May I ask the investment over an above the normal????

so what 35" tyres have you ordered ? have you gone for 10" rims? how often do you use it for lanes ? do you really need 35" if you use it alot on road...:)Also if you have a look on ashcroft site , they have a gearing calculator;)

This was my very first post dating back to early 2011 so I've had the tyres a while now.

BFG AT 315/70/17 - Lovely on or off road. Excellent wear rate. Previously I had 265/70/17 BFG ATs fitted. They went on new and were used for 23k for these were fitted. They'd used just 2mm of their tread. Paid £600 for five. Sold for £425 after 23k.

Lanes - every now and then.

I will take a look at Ashcroft's gearingulator. When I had the TGV fitted at M&D, David (can't remember surname) said the gearbox oil smell suggested that I'd need a box soon. I've since been in touch with David Ashcroft about a box and bigger torque converter. At the moment I'm saving up "in anticipation".

yes i see the date now  dont think any of us looked at that...:)

OUCH!!!!!!!

£13,855.00

I can see why the local guys Disco's look crap in comparison - thats 34,000 Bulgarian Leva or nearly 10 years average annual salary over here - LOL.

It still looks very cool but locally i can buy 42,500 pints of (expensive) beer for that so its a close run thing!?!?!?!?

On the transfer box swap..... have been told that the output shaft from the 300tdi auto box is different to the manual box shaft...Dont know if its just a difference between disco auto and manual transfer boxes ..? Anyone ?

Bugger - I knew somebody would add it all up!!!

That doesn't count "previous versions" such as the modulars with 235/85 BFG MTs which replaced the Freestyle alloys or the 265/70/17s which were the tyres used then sold before these, etc, etc.

Mine on 35" Feds. Just getting it ready for paint :)
