Peeps are not put against a wall and shot for referring to or even owning Jeeps these days - mental health issues are treated much more sympathetically - they are just derided and abused in a very grown up adult manner.

Peeps are only put up against the wall if they call their Landies Jeeps.

So...

As much as I like tinkering with cars, I think a vehicle of such complexity would require a lot more effort to run than most would be prepared to do. As prices drop more peeps on forums will pick them up and knowledge will expand, to assist fixing them. Electronics doesn't bother me. But the sheer amount of jobs to keep on top of to keep an older one running would make life horrible in the cold weather unless yer can get it inside to work on. If yer got the cash to do it then they're nice to have, but too big for my needs.
I like to tinker with cars too. However when it's your daily driver and you have to spend every other weekend replacing the next failed part. It becomes a bit of a pain. I loved the vehicle, but simply couldn't dedicate enough time to keep it up to scratch. I bought one with full dealer history. Well I spent 6 months undoing bodges all over the place on it.
I'd pretty much got it to A1 when the been counter of the family said, enough is enough. So it was sold and I bought another Freelander 1.

think as i only do a limited milage it doesn't matter if it's off the road for a week at a time while i do things

been there done that with a few chassis swaps, alas didn't have the amount of electronics that this one has

never know i may do this one up, sell and buy another one, lol

glad i didn't get the hse as i dread to see how much those have in the way of electronics

miss the old hippo but knew it was time to move on , had it 7x years , but needed a new project and also a way of moving on with life , had to do it as a way of remembering the past yet looking to the future

My guess would be it's had other work done in the background and not by a dealer. Most just want the stamp in the book (or online for newer ones) to keep vale. Things they want to hide they go elsewhere to keep it away from the history.

is amazing the amount of bodge ups that are found , nearly finished and put straight little things on mine

even putting a sleeving over the hand brake cable either side , along with some cable ties where it had slightly rubbed against the chassis , hopefully prevent a problem in the further

got underneath and sleeved and secured every wiring loom correctly, sleeving where needed and new clips installed as required

always felt if u look after the motor and do some preventive measures ahead of time will hopefully save u a headache in the future

it doesn't surprise me, i sometimes think some mechanics sit down have a cuppa then just stamp the book , i have found a garage who i at last trust , use to be my neighbour

he done a full complete service, all oils, filters, all wheels off, etc, full inspection for £160 quid and know it was done properly

funny enough the first pic is also where i put some sleeving , as it was rubbing on the chassis and done it to prevent it further

ref the second pic, don't know if that's the front or back, all front new wishbones upper and lower have been done already ,

is that a tie rod plse

think that's what's good about forums, in finding out what the weak spots are and where to look

:D:D

The second picture is the rear ARB drop link, bottom fixing. I did both things at the same time. I replaced all the drop links and ARB bushes. I also sorted out the EPB cable with protection at the same time.

well its a funny story , it was a long hardened track, on stumbling i dropped my glasses and followed the unforgettable sweet smell of perfume , along with the old classic sound of the hairdryer and zoned into that,

through the darkness i could see a faint light , knew it was the outside light of the famous hippo spa,

my hair was a mess and knew it needed sorting now out, so alas i ended up here
