Hi all

Not sure where to start really...please bare with me it's an electrical issue under the steering wheel

I'm about to fit a coolant level sensor from a rrc to my 300 d1 manual and I'm going to use the auto box oil temp light like many others have, but I thought I could also use the bonger that tells you that the key is in the ignition when you open the door as I have cut the wire for it. Long story short I had the power probe out and the wire for the bonger that I cut was giving me a live and an earth, now when I tested the oil temp light I had to give it an earth and the light came on, so, I did the same thing with the bonger wire but she didn't like it

End result is that there was a pop from the fuse box area and the key hole illumination light went out and the motors for the headlight adjusters ran for a while. Now when I turn the side lights on the motors give a very brief buzz and all three interior lights flash 6 times then go out and I get no interior lights till I've cycled the ignition

I've tested all the fuses and found a 3 amp one on a separate wire and tested all I could find under the bonnet and all is ok...I'm thinking fuse box module thing???

And by the way, where is the bonger?

Many thanks in advance

for a 300tdi i wouldnt bother with coolant level sensor just fit a brass plug on thermostat housing and check its full in there frequently, engine can be empty and expansion bottle still half full

dont just fit a brass plug - fit a radiator bleed plug. means you can bleed it hot or cold then :).
then fit the overtemp sensor in the thermostat pipe.

you dont need to open the rad bung it will bleed through the rad bleed hose the thermostat bung is the vital item, though fitting both wont hurt

i wasnt talking about the rad bung, but a household radiator bleed bung.

Thanks for the replies

I didn't know that about the tank and I've ordered the sensor now, typical

I put brass bungs in as soon as I got it

Any ideas about the electrical issues???

have you checked the fuse in drivers footwell, and with any 300 check rad gets hot all over ,rad failing to cool fully is often a cause of failure

Oh, is there fuses and relays in drivers side behind the panel like there is in the passenger side? I was expecting everyone to tell me it's the module, so is the bonger in the fuse board

Yeah me and you were talking about the electrics a couple of weeks ago, switch should be here Monday...just to add to what was back then, I've found a couple of people who say the non genuine sensors (prc7925 iirc) nowadays don't have such a high resistance and will hold a relay if that's how I want to do it

Thanks
