For the slightly technically challenged Xandros is well worth a look too.

I'd throw blag in too then (Fedora Core 1 based).

www.blagblagblag.org - there were some issues with autoupdate a while
back, but should be fixed. This is a complete distro that'll run off
the CD - type blagblagblag from the command line and it'll install on
the hard drive.

and knoppix

Get most distros from:

Redhat is for girls!

Gentoo mate, takes a day to install and you're still fiddling weeks
later, the way it should be! Excellent distro. Keeps the newbies at
bay so they don't pester you with questions about "gnome" and "kde",
whatever they are.

A series 1 80"! *lust*

I almost sold my Defender a while back to raise the cash for an 80", but
decided that it's just too damned useful to be without even though I no
longer use it as an everyday car.

hopefully my disco will be legal again tomorrow. Yesterday evening the chap
up the garage said, when I said "when can I bring it back in", "tommorow".
Go up there today, "nah, can't do it." buggrit. so it's booked for 10:30
tomorrow. Probably all he'll do is look at the stuff that needed fixing and
do the emission test, too.

up to 6mm thick.

I'm a mechanic *and* and engineer. Only one promble, no bugger will pay me
to do it.

Mind, got no bits of paper to prove any of it, but I can mechanic on most
things.

and while on the subject, what sod designed the layout of the near side
front brake pipes on the disco. Right pain in the areas to change.
Would've been much better, too, if they'd had an extra connector on the
inner wing somewhere near the coil; then it'd only be necessary to replace
the last bit down to the flexi pipe, which is the only bit that's likely to
fail, rather than 2 off about 6' of pipe with about 27 bends in each, all
fitted to the bloody bulkhead first, before all the sodding wiring and other
bits.

mutter mumble, sodding designers, grumble moan...

fear not brother shackles for the classic rangie is equally as screwed up..
of the joy after refitting the inner wing. Infact the thought of replumbing
the pipes on the other side along the sill is the main mental barrier to
doing the driver side.

I HATE BRAKES..... well bleeding brakes anyway.

Dare I suggest an engineering solution would be to cut and flare the pipes
where you suggest.

yeah, I thought about that, but it'd be nearly as much work, as you'd have
to get them mostly-off to get the machine on 'em to do the flaring, 's all
underneath the airflow meter and so on. Plus I didn't have any pipe unions
of joining 'em, but I did of course have the nuts to go each end of the
pipe. And having replaced it with copper-nickel, it shouldn't need doing
again. bloody steel brake pipes, that's another whinge. OK, the
manufacturer saves about 0.1p per foot or something by using steel
(remembering that it has to be painted where cu-ni ones don't) and in the
process you get pipes that rust where they're exposed.

There's a very nice one called 'Lucy' near where we live, it's gorgeous and
it's used off-road too,, by the looks of it .. ;)

Now we've lived with a S3 and sold it for the Disco, we wouldn't ever make
the mistake of being without a Landrover of whatever flavour .. even if we
just kept it in a shed for high days etc ;)
