any northern types fancy coming by this way, we can have a convoy [1]

M6 - M56 - Chester - Wrexham - Oswestry - Newtown - Llandrindod - Newbridge
- Beulah - Llandovery

works quite well as a route from the Frozen North.. plenty of scenery :)
If you wanna call in here, you turn right at Llanwrda. if not, straight on
through to Llandeilo and thence to Carmarthen. Can offer coffee/tea/bogs
here, natch. 's a bit under an hour from here to Carmarthen, so probably
about an hour to K-quads.

What time yerall setting off. I gotta wait for the Kids and Mrs D to finish
work but hope to be rollin' by 1630 hours from Newcastle under lyme.
Wouldn't want people hanging around needlessly though as it'll undoubtedly
be dark when we arrive on site.

I could follow the oil slick I suppose ;0) just don't you buggers get using
all the petrol! .. There is a point.. any LPG sites on this route Austin? I
guess we would be going via Shrewsbury then chucking a left and downwardly
direction... must get the maps out.

Not had any LPG problems on the route. There's stuff on the A483, at the
services before the turn for Shrewsbury. There's stuff at Newtown.

I'll not leave here til about 6 at the earliest probably, wot with having to
do school jbex. And that implies a togetherness of act and everything being
stashed in the motor ready to roll.

Right, plannin' this ere route...

Autoroute ses...

Motorway, 288 miles

Scenic, via every fecking village going, 207 miles.

So, prolly not a great deal of differnece in terms of time I guess,
but cheaperish going the very long way. Autoroute however, does not
really recognise the route you give above...

Suggesting: Sheffield, Bakewell, Stoke (hi Lee), (almost straight line
to) Aberystwyth, then down the coast.

Anyone have a better, understandable, route?

You have to be stern with it, and tell it where you want to go.

Having said that,
wrexham-oswestry-newtown-llangurig-aberystwyth-Aberaeron-Lampeter-Carmarthen
ain't a bad route, and avoids some of the more obviosuly wiggly roads. You
can go further down the coast and cut throught NC Emlyn, but I'd not bother
meself.

Quite likely that the motorway route is more expensive - I find I tend to
motor too fast for economy, given a motorway.

Multimap fancies M62, M56 and then down through from North Wales. 4
1/2 hours.

Well, by Volvo I reckon M1, M42, M5, M4 is the way to go. Not sure
how long it will take once I fall off the end of the M4, but I reckon
I can get to Swansea in 3.5 hours.

Austin's route from Wrecsam (see I'm a native) is about the best - quite
pretty in places and fairly direct. Superb descent into Aber if the
weather's right. An alternative would be Wrexham-Oswestry-Welshpool-Newtown
(as above) and then keep going South to the Wellses (Llandrindod and
Builth), Llandovery-Llandeilo-Carmarthen. Goes through some spectacular
country. I would advise against going through Stoke. You're fine as far as
Bakewell, but getting from there to the M56 will either take a day and a
half, or seem like it. Lots of towny stuff, traffic lights, roundabouts,
triple parked shopping trolleys - not really 101 country.

When mum was alive and we visited Leeds a lot, we would always go
Chester-M56-M6-M62, or round the south of Manc on the M61 (I think) Circular
when they finally built that. Even given the extra distance to Sheffield,
that's still the way I'd go. Stoke way looks good on the map, but I only
did it the once! Never again.

Are we all excited and sitting on our beds at 4am with our ruckies packed,
like the kids (and parents) in the Disneyworld ad?

I know I am.

How about M1 , A50 (It's especially nice through the city now) Left
onto the A500 across Junct 15 M6 and work the way onto A53. Then tag
on with us Via Shrewsbury, Welshpool and some other places I canner
remeber the name of. We will be doing the Disco and Caravan. Hope to
be rolling around four or five-ish from home a short trip (6ml) to
hook up the Van at Ma and Pa's and wey hey!!!

I was considering the Motorway then got that Friday feeling and as we
would have to go straight through Brum,,,bugger that!

Dunno what time your cruising.. would be much more fun in convoy if we
were going in Morph though :0(
