It's broken again.

Well after almost a week of driving after it's last fault.( crankshaft pulley)
The mistake was made of leaving the RR alone for 3 days.

On arriving home it was reclining on the rear wheels, despite the EAS timer relay being removed.
This surprised me, put the relay in, up she pumped, took the relay out and down she went.
The relay is usually left out as it freezes the suspension, so it doesn't drop on the bumpstops.

Investigations found a leak.
I'm not sure it was actualy the bag that was leaking, as the brass collet fell out in pieces, and the bag seems to hold air.
However it is past it's useful life.

At least 2 bags will need replacing, maybe 4.
A coil conversion would be cheaper, Paddocks have a kit for 300 Euros.
Or maybe a secondhand disco( only kidding :))
Hhmm. What to do?

You can pick up a set of airsprings chepaer than the conversion kit, i would just replace all four and still enjoy the benefits of air suspension

It hasn't really broken or broken down...that is just wear and tear....it is inevitable...

They only have a certain life span and as part of preventative maintenance should be changed every 7/8 years - if the previous owner had been diligent and maintained the vehicle and carried out preventative maintenance as necessary, you wouldn't have an issue - and that is hardly the poor Range Rovers fault :D:D

Trying to use a 12 year old car as a daily driver this sort of thing is bound to happen alright. I do mean this thread as a little tongue in cheek:)

I need to get it back on the road, and the bags will probably be quicker to get, so more than likely keep the air suspension.

Pretty amazing how easy that bag came out.

simple.

no issues really, you have had age/wear related failure.
you need 4x new bags. Arnott 11 will be fine.

enjoy...

All this crap about 11 year old cars, my MR2 is 27 and the wifes R11 29 years old, both totaly reliable, no hanging headlinings, original plug leads, no bearing or brake line failures, LR products are just poor quality.

But they don't have rubber air bags for suspension. Bet he wouldn't expect his tyres to last 7/8 years.
But yes to the headlining. I had a 15 year old Volvo with non sagging headlining. Think LR used wallpaper paste (flour and water maybe) to stick the roof on.

I was not thinking of the airbags, they have a specified life, it's all the other stuff, hubs, diffs, track rods, UJ's, V8 blocks etc etc.

I know, I know. But then what would we do with the spare time we don't have or the spare cash we can't afford to spend. Ah; I see your point.:(

I got 4 bags for £200 from Island. Seem to work although the top of one started leaking air when I walloped an almighty pothole at 50 or 60mph. Still cheaper than conversion and superior.

LR make a rod for their own back with the EAS, airbag replacement should be in the service schedule.

Yeah; not even sure if the bags are checked properly during an m.o.t. Should't think its too safe one of them going pop at high speed or cornering (or both).

Air springs are part of the MOT. They should be inspected for wear.

Yep, should be inspected; but look at the photos of his airbags. Doesn't look like they've had the once over for a couple of years. When I changed mine a few years back they were in a god awful state, and the motor had passed its m.o.t. 2 months before.
Wonder if anyone has had an 'advisory' on air suspension when getting an m.o.t.?

Well, no airbags in South Ireland unless you want to pay LR 320 Euros plus the vat for one:eek:
So ordered 2 from Paddocks, at 55 Stg, seem to be the same ones too.
Yep as most people said much cheaper than a conversion.
These are definitely an item to checked carefully. I'll do the front ones as soon as money and time are available.

True on other old cars Datatek, a TR7 gets pressed into service here when the RR sits down, it's 33 years old, and no bother.
