Sounds more like cambelt faliure to me.
Rob.
EDIT.........forget my reply, just read the thread correctly.
Rob.............numpty......doh!!!!!

Oh bugger! Did you give the head and block a good clean up with emory cloth before you applied the new gasket and you didn't put hylomar or any silicone sealant under it did you? It cant have been cam belt if there engine was ticking over and trying to start. You can check by putting your hand over the exhaust whilst turning over the starter. Is there any blow out of the exhaust? It will only be slight. What kind of noise was it making?

Did It All Absotivly Properly. The Gasket Totally Sealed No Problems Or Anything, She Was Running Perfect Up Till The Second It Stopped.
Tis Just A Bugger, Spend All The Time Reconditionin It And This Happens,

You can't have mine! Its great =) Got me to Weymouth and back without any trouble and went up to Durham yesterday 70 all the way! No problem, no fuss no oil leaks! Are you about one weekend this september?

Thats unbelievable that really =P It should be quite a decent engine really, they weren't as bad as people made them out to be, it was just because in their earlier days people thrashed them because they had a turbo, which caused loads of problems and internal damage. My N/A will do 74 on the flat and accelerate to 78 down slopes to over take! It's bloody loud though and I have to open the vents because the heat comes straight back into the cab.

I only got 27 running down to Weymouth because I was driving at 65 to 70 all the way down. Generally running about I get 27 and on a motr way run to and back from Durham last year (before the rebuild) I got 30.06 MPG!!! That was driving at 55MPH nearly all the way up though.

Not too bad really

Yeah I'm quite pleased with it. You should in theory achieve more than what I get because the turbo is their to improve efficiency. Like I said it ran at high revs down to Weymouth for 8 hours and then back up with even higher revs for 6 hours, no problem! There are still plenty on ebay but you can't be sure what you're getting thats the only problem. Its slow off the mark but its good once it gets going! Theres no need to fit a land rover engine. Why not get a perkins or an Iveco diesel engine?

We're in the same boat then. I'm starting uni in Sep, product design course. I was meant to be taking a dry stone walling course at the end of August but the guy never got back in touch!
