Italian 88 Series III - Should I or Shouln't I?

These are impact sockets for use with an impact wrench, also an impact UJ. The one on the far right is flank drive, I hadn't noticed that until now. A bit clumsy for everyday hand use but as Gazbo mentions: essential for use with an impact gun.

Not really, they're just 40 to 50 years old except for the flank drive one. Oh God, I'm so old...

When I started as an apprentice we had pay deducted to buy tools, in those days (arrgh!) everything was imperial A/F, over the years it all got pushed to the back of the shed and replaced by much poorer quaity metric stuff. Since I've had the Series its all been brought out again and its still great; Britool, Snap-on, Bluepoint, King Dick, none of it ever breaks. I'm still using sockets my (long dead) father used in the war when they were first coming over from the US. Still no wear on them.

Naaa not avin that @Extreedoc ! They got RUST in them so they must av bin used on a landy !

They've been sitting in the "waterproof tool locker" section of a Landy, that ain't exactly waterproof. Once they've rusted to the floor they don't rattle about any more..

There's no tool like an old tool, "vintage" is a better way to describe old age I always say.

Got the wiring out and making progress on removing stuff from the bulkhead. Any advice on how to get the rear prop shaft off?

I'll put better pics on during the week. One edge of the bulkhead has rusted through completely.

OK I haven't taken this job any further because the heads on the nuts are completely rounded and impossible to budge. I can't see how to get them off. Any advice on this one very welcome.

Another question... Is dismantling the wipers on the 88 the same as dismantling them on a Defender? I haven't looked at them properly yet. Do I have to get them off with an Allen key?

the nut will split along the length of a flat with a sharp cold chisel and decent hammer

OK I'll try that. Thanks

Every time I try the chisel method, I end up clouting my hand or something breakable nearby. Before I resort to that I would apply as much heat as possible and try shifting the nut with a pair of footprints.

I found 9/16s a bit slack on a couple of mine but a 14 mm span em a treat.

Should be a grub screw in the adapter that sits on the shaft.
